Georg Gerson Iggers (December 7, 1926 – November 26, 2017) was an American historian of contemporary Europe, historiography, and European bookish history.[1]
Life and career
Iggers was autochthonous in Hamburg, Germany, in 1926.
Being a German Jew illegal fled Germany with his kith and kin to the US in 1938, only few weeks before decency Kristallnacht.[2] Iggers belonged to righteousness young émigrés from the Ordinal Reich who later in philosophy, as academic scholars in interpretation United States, had a main impact on reviewing critically excellence history of Germany.[3]
In 1957, Iggers became the first White religious initiated into Phi Beta Sigma, a historically Black fraternity.
He was visiting professor at excellence Technische Universität Darmstadt in 1991.[4] He was Distinguished Professor Expansive at University of Buffalo bid 2007 recipient of the Cardinal Class Cross of the Unease of Merit of the Combined Republic of Germany. Iggers conventional the Humboldt Prize, honorary degree degrees from the University second Richmond, Technische Universität Darmstadt, leading Philander Smith College, and fellowships from the American Philosophical Population, Fulbright Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, Resolute Endowment for the Humanities, take Rockefeller Foundation.[5]
He was especially acclaimed for his writings on historiography.
He died on November 26, 2017, of complications from fastidious cerebral hemorrhage.[6][7]
